Essay

Thesis is dedicated to the investigation of pathogenetic features of the corrective effect of melatonin on the state of the liver in experimental diabetes mellitus types 1 and 2, and on the polymorphism of the gene of melatonin receptors type 2 in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. It has been established, that administration of melatonin in a dose of 10 mg/kg, is accompanied by a decrease of hyperglycemia, normalization of the studied biochemical markers of hepatopathy, antioxidant system activity, manifestations of nitrooxidative stress, contributing to the reduction of histological signs of liver damage in experimental diabetes 1 and 2 types, showing immunomodulatory and tissue-protective properties. Studies have investigated the effect of gene polymorphism variants of type 2 melatonin receptor on patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus and the relationship between genetic variants of polymorphic site G of locus rs10830963and risk of developing diabetes mellitus and this allele of risk was associated with increased activity of aspartate aminotransferase and total bilirubin content. Administration of melatonin has not alleviated its corrective effects regardless of type 2 melatonin receptor gene polymorphism.
