Essay

The thesis is devoted to the comprehensive study of the essence, main factors, methodical approaches and indicators of the efficiency of functioning and development of modern economic systems. The author discloses the evolution of scientific views on the essence and characteristic features of economic systems, highlights the specifics of orthodox (quantitative) and non-orthodox (qualitative) approaches to the analysis of economic efficiency; reveals methodological achievements of neo-institutionalism in the study of efficiency of national economies; substantiates the essence and criteria of efficiency of modern economic systems, socio-economic, resource-cost, institutional and adaptive methodical approaches to their evaluation; conducts comparative analysis of socio-economic and institutional effectiveness of market transformations in post-socialist countries. Based on the analysis of key factors and dynamics of efficiency of the economic system of Ukraine in the transformation period, of the content and direction of relevant institutional changes, the thesis substantiates priorities of increase of the effectiveness of functioning and development of the national economy in terms of ensuring the implementation of sustainable development objectives, the expanded reproduction of natural, physical and human resources, increase of social and intellectual capital, development and implementation of effective public policy encouraging the rational use of resources, creation of favorable institutional environment for innovation, legitimization and de-bureaucratization of economic activity, reduction of transaction costs by eliminating their corruption component
