The object of the study is the Ukrainian state building of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. and the historical mission of Metropolitan A. Sheptytsky. The subject of the study is the state-legal and socio-political activity of Metropolitan A. Sheptytsky and his views on the future state-legal system of Ukraine. The scientific novelty of the obtained results of the dissertation research is that the state-legal views of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyy for the first time have been thoroughly investigated. The scientific results are specified in the following positions: first: - the expediency of the use of the logic and the tools of existentialism and hermeneutics as theoretical and methodological principles of the study, which allowed us to get rid of the rational-contemplative understanding and to deepen into the real world of human existence, to comprehend both the subjectivity itself and the forms of its realization from the living word to the practical activities; in depth: - an understanding of the political and state-legal subjectivity as different stages of self-development of the Ukrainian people, in particular, the political level of subjectivity is fixed by the formation of the national idea, and the state-legal subjectivity is characterized by an understanding of the practice of constitutional law in the development of subjects of national state-building; - the vision of the ways of stable development of the society and improvement of the state legal system of Ukraine not only on the basis of legal norms and functioning of the institutes of democracy, but due to the formation of a highly educated moral elite that would become the core of strengthening civil society and contributed to the understanding, consensus between different political parties, social strata through public dialogue.
