The thesis is focused on the theoretical synthesis and empirical results of the investigation to determine the psychological characteristics of the future doctors' emotional competence formation. It provides a new perspective on the problem of place of emotional competence in the structure of physicians' professional activity, the notion of emotional competence as a sustainable system of psychological education in the structure of the emotional sphere, professionally important quality of the expert's personality, that expresses a certain level of emotional maturity and is an important factor of professional formation. Also there were studied the components of emotional competence (cognitive, social, regulatory, empathy), and their importance in physician's professional activities. The literature review on the problem of the research, allowed us to identify the main theoretical aspects in the study of the emotional competence phenomenon: the meaning, the essence of the concept, structural characteristics of this phenomenon. The results of our analysis allowed us to establish that today the problem of the formation of emotional competence of a future specialist is new in the field of psychological research, in practice, at higher medical education. The suggested approach to the study of the emotional sphere of personality in the context of professional activity allowed us to determine the psychological characteristics of emotional competence as a component of doctor's professional activity. According to the objectives of the study, the emotional competence of future doctors was analyzed as a sustainable system of psychological education in the emotional sphere structure. In the paper there were described the structural components of future doctors' emotional competence, and also was suggested complex method of their diagnostic evaluation. Conducted correlation analysis allowed to prove that the parameters of social, cognitive, regulatory, empathy components of emotional competence are significantly correlated. There was developed a model to study psychological features of future physician's emotional competence formation, including a determination of the emotional competence level of the individual student - future doctor. Based on that there was created and implemented a comprehensive program for the students - future doctors' emotional competence formation in the process of training, the content of which is aimed to the development of the physician's emotional competence components.
