Bulach M. Communicative status of periphrasis in the media: stylistic aspect.

In the dissertation text a number of topical issues of the secondary nomination were solved, the argumentation of the functions and style potential of the secondary nomination, substantively periphrases and euphemisms that dominate in the processes of active language development of the media and most effectively perform the basic functions of the media sphere of social communication - informative and impact function, were expanded and deepened. In the concepts of linguistic stylistics theory, following thesis is advanced the linguistic realization of these functions in the media periphrasis occurs analogically to the secondary nomination of phenomena and processes, in particular in the forms of transformed traditional periphrases, as well as periphrastic neologism. The thought about periphrasis as a special type of secondary nomination and media intentions of the present article that actualize the word and phrase formation potential of the Ukrainian literary language is being also formulated and proved. The semantic relations of the periphrastic units system, in particular synonymy, antonymy, homonymy are investigated. In dissertation attention is paid to homonymous periphrases, in particular, toponymic periphrases, which implements primarily nominative, expressive, synonymous, evaluative functions, as well as functions of giving characteristic, pattern and text structuring. The polyfunctionality of the toponymic periphrases makes it possible to realize the main characteristics of the secondary nomination - appreciation, emotionality, implement the function of influence, as well as the ability to verbalize new social values and priorities. It was determined that toponymic periphrases are one of the effective mechanisms for the formation of media text as a multi-level polycommunicative structure, which is based on the sociocultural tradition and new knowledge about the world, due to the peculiarities of social experience and time of culture.
