The thesis provides theoretical substantiation and practical elaboration of the methodology of teaching future interpreters consecutive scientific and technical interpreting. The author defines the concept of “consecutive interpreting” and “teaching consecutive interpreting”. Detailed analysis has been made in terms of the components of communicative and special competences developed prior to learning consecutive interpreting, as well as the competences included into the student’s translation competence being formed during the study have been analyzed. The knowledge and abilities considered to be the most important in the course of learning activities organization have been specified. The author considers the interconnection of the learning objectives and the components of translation competence. Knowledge, skills and abilities of students have been characterized according to their pertaining to the practical, instructional, educational and developmental purpose. Based on the analysis of competences and their components, the skills to be developed within the exercise system have been determined. The features of consecutive scientific and technical interpreting are analyzed. The components of the psychological content of consecutive interpreting and the components of the interpreting readiness are determined. The features of the scientific discourse have been studied, the authentic texts have been analyzed and the necessity of using authentic audio-visual samples and texts to improve the effectiveness of teaching is justified. Within the framework of the study, the stages have been clarified; an exercise subsystem and a model for teaching consecutive scientific and technical interpreting have been developed. The effectiveness of the implemented training methodology has been verified and proved experimentally. The methodological recommendations for the training of future interpreters of consecutive scientific and technical interpreting have been suggested.
