Dissertation for a scientific degree of Candidate of Sciences (Engineering) on specialty 05.17.07 - chemical technology of fuels and lubricants. - State Enterprise "Ukrainian State Research Institute for Carbochemistry (UKHIN)". Kharkiv, 2018. The dissertation is devoted to theoretical and experimental researches of processes of coke oven gas primary cooling, which play the main role in providing the purity of gas at all stages of its processing. The primary gas cooler with horizontal pipes is the most modern and widespread apparatus. Operating stages for reducing the hydraulic pressure drop have been already developed, such as continuous washing with a tar-condensate mixture. In order to improve the pre-treatment of coke oven gas for the valuable chemical products recovery it has been developed the proposals for improving the indirect cooling technology due to primary cooler washing by the new liquid - water-tar emulsion of direct type with high mobility and limited stability. Such a washing liquid is not a source of secondary hydrocarbon deposits in the inter-tubular space of the primary cooler, especially in the zone of cold sections. For the first time, it has been scientifically proved that, in the traditional method of primary cooler washing with intensive mixing of the tar-condensate liquid in the range of temperatures 50-70 °С, with a content of tar in a mixture above 40 %, reverse-type emulsions ("water in a tar") could be formed, which increased the viscosity of the system, especially at temperatures below 50 °С. The basic requirements for the washing liquid are formulated aimed for increasing the degree of cooling of the coke gas, providing optimum hydraulic mode of the apparatus, preventing the formation of secondary sediments and reducing the content in the cooled coke oven gas of naphthalene and tar substances. For the first time, it has been proved that for the formation of direct-type emulsions based on coal tar and aqueous condensate of coke oven gas, an emulsifier should be added, in fact, a solution of sodium phenolates from the caustic treatment of the wash oil fraction. It was first established that, in comparison with a coal tar, in a water-tar direct emulsion the specific saturation of tar with naphthalene increases. A technological scheme for washing the inter-pipe gas space of primary cooler with horizontal pipes with a water-tar emulsion of direct type was developed and tested in industrial conditions, which allowed to reduce the temperature of cooling of coke gas, and also to reduce in 1,5-2,0 times the content of tar substances and naphthalene in coke oven gas. Materials of the dissertation are also used in the educational process at the specialized departments of the NTU "KhPI", National University "Lvivs'ka Polytechnika", Donetsk National Technical University.
