In dissertation work on the basis of the expansion of scientific ideas about the influence of parameters of composition, structure and properties of coals of different degrees of metamorphism and petrographic composition on the magnitudes of its gross calorific value on the moist ash free basis and dry ash free basis, and moisture-holding capacity, an important scientific and technical task, which is characterized by scientific novelty and has practical value, namely - scientifically substantiated recommendations for the calculation of these parameters have been developed. For the first time, a universal quantitative dependence has been developed that allows to obtain a sufficient accuracy of calculating the gross calorific value on the dry ash free basis of the petrographic characteristics of the coals for different basins. To educed the relationship of the moisture-holding capacity determined by the type of coal with their basic genetic and technological properties. A direct dependence of the moisture-holding capacity of coals from the volume of pore water was established. It has been brought possible to the moisture-holding capacity of coals increase in the basins in intervale from 3,7 to 35,3 %, that is by showing chemical composition of the ash, which is characterized by the acid-basic correlation I0 from 0,198 to 1,832 units. For the first time on the basis of the research of coal petrographic homogeneous equal metamorphosed coal of Ukraine and the USA found that the gross calorific value on the dry ash free basis coal state is determined mainly metamorphic grade coal and its petrographic composition and to a much lesser extent on the degree of its restoration. For the first time some quantitative dependences of the gross calorific value of coal on the moist ash free basis have been established, differently from the parameters of the gross calorific value on the dry ash free basis and from the moisture-holding capacity of coal of stages of metamorphism and petrographic homogeneity. Designed, approved and entered in the Register of techniques of SE "UKHIN" Method of determining moisture-holding capacity of the coals. Developed, approved "Ukrkoks" and transferred to the сokemaking enterprises of Ukraine scientifically-proved Methodical recommendations for calculation of gross calorific value of coal on the moist ash free basis.
