The thesis is dedicated to the theoretical and experimental study of the problem of creative independence of students in the process of studying a technique of teaching the foreign literature in higher educational institutions. The scientific novelty and theoretical value of the research is that there have been comprehensively studied the first time in a methodical science the problem of creative independence of the individual and the integrity of methodical preparation of students based on their individual creative activity, clarified and scientifically grounded the meaning of "creative independence" and its role in methodical preparation of future teachers of literature, defined the criteria (motivational, processual, effective), indicators and levels (duplicating, reconstructive creativity, constructive creativity and productive creativity) of formation of creative independence of students-philologists in the process of methodical preparation, developed and experimentally verified the theoretical basis and model of methodical system of development of creative independence of students-philologists of higher pedagogical educational institutions, defined the most effective forms, methods, receptions and kinds of learning activities of students which aimed at developing creative independence in future teachers of literature in the process of studying a technique of teaching the foreign literature. In the thesis theoretically grounded and experimentally proved the methodical system of the development of creative independence of students in the process of studying a technique of teaching foreign literature. At the core of the system have been laid philosophical views on creativity and independence of the individual as the foundation of human existence, the essence, the aim and source of its activities; psychological and pedagogical conceptions about personality development in the educational process, forming the activity, independence and creativity of students; methodical experience of the raised problem in the practice of professional training future teachers of foreign literature. The structure of methodical system of the development of creative independence of students in the process of studying a technique of teaching foreign literature has been defined by such structural elements as the leading idea, pivotal issues, principles, functions, components, implementation stages, methods, receptions and kinds of learning activities. It has been experimentally proved that the proposed technique directs students into productive independent and creative activities, increases the effectiveness of training and professional self-development, improves the methodical preparation of students-philologists in higher pedagogical educational institutions, provides a creation of qualitatively new unconventional values of teaching and educational importance and causes a creative approach to their chosen profession in terms of reforming the modern school and implementing the concept of literary education in Ukraine. The materials of research can be used to create curricula, textbooks, lecture materials development, planning practical and laboratory sessions for university course "Technique of teaching the foreign literature" in all forms of learning activities of students-philologists.
