The work is devoted to solving the important task of purifying drinking water from microorganisms that are in a viable but non-culturable state by developing a technology for their neutralization and deep sequestration when applying new approaches to assessment and water quality control. It has been found that, under the influence of sodium hypochlorite, the microorganisms of E. coli and C. albicans are capable of transitioning into viable but non-culturable state. A method for the detection of microorganisms in viable but non-culturable state in drinking water has been developed for the first time. An effective method of additional purification of drinking water from microorganisms that are in a viable but non-culturable state by contact flocculation was proposed, and as a flocculant used cationic flocculant, polydialyldimethylammonium chloride (DB-45)
