Lutsenko I. Counteracting the Activities of Totalitarian Sects: Criminological Principles

The dissertation is focused on the comprehensive criminological analysis of the activities of totalitarian sects and formulation of propositions on this basis on improving the measures for counteracting the crimes associated with it. Within the framework of the study, the author has determined the concepts and criminologically significant features of totalitarian sects, has carried out their criminological classification. The author has established, provided a description and explanation of the forms and methods of totalitarian sects’ activities in the mechanism of their criminal activity. The socially harmful consequences of the activities of totalitarian sects in the mechanism of criminogenic determination have been characterized. The author has defined the concept and provided characteristics of the system of measures in counteracting the activities of totalitarian sects, which includes: preventive care, prevention (avoidance), termination and criminal and legal prevention. A complex of legal, ideological, organizational and tactical measures of counteracting the activities of totalitarian sects has been characterized; propositions on their improvement have been elaborated. The analysis and generalization of international experience in counteracting the activities of totalitarian sects have been accomplished; the possibilities of using certain of its components in the domestic criminological practice have been determined.
