The object of the research is thanatotic mythology of Ukraine. The thanatotic mythology characters are reviewed as a multifunctional cultural phenomenon; they stand as a determinant of ancient Slavic culture, correlate with etiological, axiological, and semiotic spheres, and are a component of culture system. In this work we have reviewed the stages of evolution of tanatic mythology ideas inside the system of ancient Slavonic and Ukrainian traditional culture, and also determined the factors and vectors of their transformation
