Essay

The object of research is spy novels by I. Fleming «Casino Royale» (1953), «Moonraker» (1955), «From Russia, with Love» (1957), «Thunderball» (1961), «Diamonds Are Forever» (1956), «Dr. No» (1958), «Goldfinger» (1959). Among the literary works by Yu. Semyonov the following novels «Seventeen Moments of Spring» (1969), «Despair» (1990), «The Password is not Needed» (1966), «Major “Vikhr”» (1967), «Spanish Variant» (1973), «Alternative» (1974) are being analyzed. The results and scientific novelty: the analyses of spy novels by I. Fleming and Yu. Semyonov based on the social and cultural mythologized unity of spy-heroes undertaken in Ukrainian literary studies for the first time. The thesis is the first comparative research of the given novels that studies their heroes on the basis of scientific searchings of English, American and French criticism, Ukrainian and Russian literary studies that contributed to the mythologization of Bond and Stierlitz. The dominant feature of the scientific novelty is the reflexion on the problem of a «hero-myth» as a cult hero of a new type in a spy novel of mass literature. The field of application: The materials of research may be used in the developing of new corresponding special courses of study and special seminars in history of mass literature formation, text analyses in the aspect of social and cultural mythologization of a hero. The typology of spy novels by I. Fleming and Yu. Semyonov may be used in the translation practice.
