The object of the study is the R&D intensity of the economy. The subject of the study is the patterns of formation and innovation factors of the optimal level of the R&D intensity of the economy. Research methods: general scientific methods of cognition: analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction; special methods: economic-statistical and comparative analysis methods; methods of econometric analysis; methods of normative and institutional analysis. Scientific novelty of the obtained results: the theoretical and methodological principles of the empirical determination of the optimal level of the R&D intensity of the economy for the stimulation of innovative factors of economic development in modern conditions were revealed and deepened. Theoretical and practical results: the results of the research can be used in research in the field of economic theory and history of economic thought, as well as for the formation of the state's economic policy in the scientific, technical and innovative spheres.
