Stoiko L. Pharmacognostic research of Centaurium erythraea Rafn. and Gentiana cruciata L. of Gentianaceae family

The thesis is devoted to comprehensive pharmacognostic research of two species from Gentianaceae family Centaurium erythraea Rafn. and Gentiana cruciata L. Using phytochemical methods of analysis in the herb of analyzed species the presence of carbohydrates, iridoids, amino and organic acids, phenolic substances, chlorophylls and carotenoids was determined. Using the spectrophotometric method, the quantitative total content of phenolic substances, hydroxycinnamic acids, flavonoids, iridoids, xanthones, polyphenols, tannins and content of ascorbic acid, chlorophylls and carotenoids was determined. The amino acid and individual phenolic compounds composition and their content was determined by HPLC method. Organic acids were identified by TLC and quantified by titrimetric method. The GC/MS method determined the qualitative composition and quantitative content of monosaccharides, sucrose, fatty acids and volatile compounds. The output of lipophilic fraction and the content of water-soluble polysaccharides and pectin substances was determined using gravimetric method. The presence and content of macro- and microelements was determined using AAS method. The morphological and anatomical features of the analyzed objects were defined, quality parameters and technological parameters, as required by the State Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine were determined. Dry extract of the Gentiana cruciata L. herb was obtained and its antibacterial and antifungal actions were set. Thick extract of Centaurium erythraea Rafn. herb was obtained and it’s stimulating effect on gastric juice secretion was determined. Quality Control Methods for “Centaurium Erythraea Herb” and “Gentiana Cruciata Herb”; “Thick Extract of Centaurium Erythraea Herb” and “Dry Extract of Gentiana Cruciata Herb” were worked out.
