Essay

Dissertation focuses on the use of coloronyms and their lexical and phraseological derivatives in modern German publicistic text. The theoretical and methodological basis of the research of coloronyms is defined. The basic approaches to the concept of coloronyms are analyzed. The dissertation reveals the coloronyms and their lexical-phraseological derivatives in etymological and semantic aspects. Special attention is paid to the composites with a coloristic component being nouns, verbs and adjectives. In modern German publicistic texts coloronyms often function as components of phraseological units (nominal and verbal). Positive or negative evaluation of phraseological unit depends on the coloristic component and is based on the person’s associative experience. It is determined that set expressions with coloristic component can be divided into seven grammatical models, among which the most popular are the following: Adj + N, Prep + Adj + N, Adj + N + V. It has been found out that coloronyms, their lexical and phraseological derivatives, which reveal the person’s associative experience, are used to reflect different aspects of human life. As a result, six thematic groups of coloronyms and their lexical and phraseological derivatives have been singled out: finance, political affiliation, world outlook, psychological state, activity, physical state. The choice of the coloronyms in the above groups depends on its associative perception by a person. Each thematic group is characterized by certain coloronyms, which is explained by specifics of the sphere referred and corresponding associations. Set expressions with the basic coloristic components are created due to the application of metaphoric and metonymic mechanisms.
