Essay

This thesis is devoted to research of semantic and lexical adaptation of the new loan words in modern Ukrainian language. The term “new loan word” and its place in the lexical-semantic system of Ukrainian language have been determined. The structural-semantic pecularities of the new Anglicisms as the largest group of new loan words and the new foreign words borrowed from other European and non-European languages, have been analyzed. The types of loan words have been distinguished. The factors of the new loan words assimilation in modern Ukrainian language and the main stages of their development have been studied. The main lexical-semantic groups of the new loan words have been distinguished, the types of changes of their semantic structure have been analyzed. The thesis revealed the specific features of the new loan words semantic and phonomorphemic structure and the main extralingual and intralingual factors influencing world-building activity of peak-word for the word family. Part-of-speech parameters of word family with neo-loan words as their vertices have been systematized. It has been proved that paradigmatic word families, structured by composites of the first-degree derivability formed by two roots of loan words were predominant. A continuum of word-forming meanings, implemented by derivatives from neo-loan words was determined. On the basis of data collected, a glossary of the new loan words and a glossary of the new loan abbreviations have been compiled. The practical value of the obtained results can be realized in lexicographic practice by means of dictionaries of foreign words and neologisms, special courses of studies, special seminars on the subject of loan words and in the process of compiling dictionaries of foreign words and explanatory dictionaries of modern Ukrainian language. They also can be used for the research of the dynamic processes of the Ukrainian language vocabulary. The data analyzed proved the flexibility of the semantic structure of the new loan words, their modifications caused by system of target language which differs from the source language, and their involvement in word-forming processes.
