Lemets L. Symbols in Ivan Frankoʼs poetry: linguo-stylistic aspect.

In the dissertation a linguistic analysis of the symbols in I. Frankoʼs poetry texts has been made. The symbol is interpreted as a polysemic culturologically determined unit of thought, the semantic core of which is represented by explicit and implicit symbolic semes that arise on the basis of rethinking, asemantization or semantic displacement of actualized and directly correlate with the phenomena of archetypal, ethnomental and individual levels. The functioning of archetypal and biblical symbols in I. Frankoʼs poetry has been researched on the basis of specific examples, their dynamics has been trased (symbolic core – periphery), important elements enriching and complementing the national-language picture of the world have been singled out. The basic set of theoretical problems arising in the study of symbols as a universal aesthetic and linguo-stylistic category is determined. The motivational (extra- and intralingual) factors and the logical and semantic mechanism of the formation of the basic and peripheral symbolical meanings in poetry discourse of I. Franko have been established. Newly-discovered symbolic meanings in the system of the authorʼs poetic discourse are described.
