Essay

The thesis is the first comprehensive study of the titles of Ukrainian works in the post-Soviet period in view of their semantic, structural and pragmatic specifics. In the dissertation the modern state of development of the theory of nomination is determined. The main factors that determine the choice of the nomination method are the following: the arsenal of linguistic means, communicative guidelines, conditions of communication, the level of awareness of the communicants about the signified, etc. The main principles of the research of nominative mechanisms are characterized: the principle of anthropocentrism, the principle of axiologicality and the principle of mentality, the psychoanal principle, the principle of creativity. Peculiarities of the primary, secondary and re-nomination are analyzed. A variant nomination for designating objects appearing on the basis of primary objects (names of films, names of translated works) is singled out. Qualified headline as a dictome unit that integrates the four most important functional and sign aspects of language: nomination, prediction, thematization and stylization. It has been found out that the title can be autosemantic (as a text message, as an independent message) and syncmatical (in the background of the text, as a derivative of the text). The extensive functional range of the title is outlined, the ma1in functions are distinguished: nominative, representative, graphical-excelent, integrative, conceptual-content, linking, evaluative-expressive, impression, advertising and aesthetic. It was established that the formation of title models in the Ukrainian literature took place in the direction of narrowing of text information and complication of nominative meaning with predicative information, enhancement of attractiveness and imagery. The lexical-semantic and structural characteristics of headline representatives are presented. The correlation of headings with the main content characteristics of the text: “hero”, “object (part)”, “action, event, state, phenomenon”, “space” and “time” are revealed. Main lexical microsystems and totals of words forming one thematic group are differentiated. The continuity of the lexical linguistic space testifies to the links between the LSF man and other LSFs that are formed around the centers (love, religion, nature, etc.) that are part of the LSF and the peripheral zone of LSF man. The tendencies, which are most fully and often implemented in the headings, are singled out: integrative tendency, figurativeness, intellectualization, internationalization of the lexical system, autochthonization, decolonization, tendency to save energy, linguistic means and minimization. The lexical-semantic phenomenon of the linguistic game is analyzed, the speech techniques based on semantic associations are differentiated, the usage specific of foreign language vocabulary for the creation of the game effect are described. The grammatical models perceived by the recipients as specific for creation of literary titles are studied. Based on the modern classification of syntactic units in Ukrainian, heading-word forms, heading-phrases, heading-sentences are distinguished. The focus is on the gender aspects of choosing the grammatical forms of the work. It was found out that the “man’s” writing is more restrained and clearer, tends to order and concreteness; instead, for women's writing, the narrative manner of presenting is characteristic, emphasis on attribution and emotionality. These factors significantly determine the lexical-semantic content and the grammatical design of the titles of “male” and “female” works. The perspective and retrospective relationship between the title and the text is analyzed, the title is described as a text and metatext component. The features of updating of the main text categories (informativity, modality, integrity, relative completeness, connectivity, pragmatism, prospection and retrospection) with the help of the title are investigated. The main types of heading motivation are determined depending on the status of the motivator and the way of its display. The specificity of the perception of the title and the text before and after reading the text is determined. To analyze the success of coding information in the headlines of contemporary literary works, an associative experiment was conducted, which showed interest of respondents in naming works. On the basis of the selected material an electronic index of headers is created.
