Holichenko M. Communicative and Pragmatic Functions of Vocative Sentences in Ukrainian Artistic and Political discourses.

The analysis involves vocative constructions that are used in two types of discourse artistic (dramatic and discourse of the Ukrainian fable) and political, since these constructions most clearly achieve their communicative and pragmatic functions through dialogique speech which is typical for both discourses. The peculiarities of vocative constructions as a separate type of monosyllabic sentences of modern Ukrainian literary language are characterized in the dissertation.Various approaches to the interpretation as well as functional and semantic differentiation of these syntactic units are generalized. Differential features of the main component of vocative sentences, expressed by a vocative case as the nominee of the addressee of speech, are determined. The semantic and syntactic correlation as well as formal and syntactic correlation of the vocative and nominative cases has been analyzed. The common features of vocative constructions and sentences of the incentive modality which involve the presence of a speaker and a listener, on whom the communicative actions of incentive are directed, have been defined.
