Essay

The research is dedicated to the study and revealing of the main laws of the arrangement, transformation and conversion of the instrumental pieces of the Baroque era for Ukrainian stringed-plucked instrument – the bandura. An introduction of the term “conversion” into musicology is substantiated. It involves some work with the original work, namely, its processing, transformation, updating of the timbre peculiarities and technology of the musical material (harmonic and mode variation, textural reconsideration, some rhythmic editing), but with preservation of subtleties and features of the musical language of the original. The main features of the textural and timbre transformation and some features of the interpretation of the works of the Baroque era for the bandura are considered on the example of the works of B. Marcello, J. S. Bach, G. Telemann, G. Handel. The basic principles of the arrangement of this music for the bandura are emphasized and attention is paid to some performing issues. The subject of the research is the specificity of the textural and timbre transformation of the instrumental works of the Baroque era in contemporary arrangements for the bandura - encourages a change in the creative approach to the bandura performance and brings the Ukrainian national instrument closer to the academic art of the world classics.
