Holubchak K. Architectural and planning organization of spiritual retreat centres of Ukraine Greek Catholic Church

The subject of a research is devoted to studying of the architectural and planning arrangement of spiritual-retreat centres of Ukraine Greek Catholic Church. The thesis analyzes the scientific works on various disciplines concerning the research problems, reveals the main prerequisites causing formation of spiritual-retreat centres of UGCC, analyzes the sacral and tourist potential of Western Ukraine and reveals the development prospects of network of spiritual-retreat centres of UGCC, as well as generalizes the foreign and domestic experience of designing institutions of this type. Determined a general technique of the research and offered methods of determining the influence of functional and technological aspects on architectural and planning solutions of UGCC SRC. This thesis also describes the principles of classification of SRC of UGCC and outlines the author's interpretation of typological division of SRC of UGCC, and offers the following classification of spiritual-retreat centres by their functional purpose and nature of activity: retreat centres, pilgrim centres, parish (catechetical) centres. The main town-planning principles for formation of SRC of UGCC, the principles of their arrangement in the existing context have been defined, as well as the scientifically based recommendations for placement, functional and volume and spatial organization of this institution.
