The dissertation is devoted to solving the problem of creating new tools and methods for evaluation the quality of the edges of cutting tools (further ECT) for finishing. In the work based on the study of the process of formation of the contact zone "tool – the workpiece" in the conditions of adhesion, the dependence of the quality of the ECT on the adhesion component of the friction force was established. The toolkit for quantifying the quality of ECT, based on simulation modeling of the cutting process, which takes into account the tribological interaction of tool and processing materials and the rounding radius of the cutting tool's edge, is developed and practically implemented. The standard geometric parameters of the indenter are proposed for determining the adhesion component of the frictional force that may occur during the cutting process by the tool under given conditions, including the coatings. The normative support for the process of quantitative evaluation of quality ECT as a typical standard of organization "Express method of evaluating the quality of the edges of cutting tools" and a package of normative support of process using purchased cutting tools in industrial plants, allowing, in the use of modern CALS-technologies to improve performance machining materials.
