In the thesis «Genre Peculiarities of the Comedy in English, German and Ukrainian Dramaturgy (in the late 19th and early 20th centuries)» from the perspective of the Comparative Literature Studies a system research of the peculiarities of the given comedies «The Importance of Being Earnest» (1895), «An Ideal Husband» (1895) by Wilde, «Arms and the Man» (1894), «Man and Superman» (1903) by B. Shaw, «Kollege Crampton» (1892), «Der Biberpelz» (1893) by G. Hauptmann, «The Sea of Life» by I. Karpenko-Karyi, «To Be Duped» (1881), «The Opposite Streams» (1900) by M. Kropyvnytskyi is carried out. On the basis of the contrastive analysis of the poetic structure of the English, German and Ukrainian comedies of the examined epoch it is determined that it is characterized by the depiction of the comic and funny situations, characters and phenomena on the one side as well as the examination of the serious and important social problems on the other side. The technique of imposition towards the author’s ironic comprehension of the surroundings, the scorn of the regulatory templates is a characteristic feature of the creators of the English comedy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The leading part belongs to the complete polemics of the characters that is going on within the sociopolitical, moral, ethical perspectives and a paradoxical examination of the bright-eyed arguments of the epoch in the comedies of O. Wilde and B. Shaw. The literary work of the vast majority of the German comediographs of the given epoch is characterized by the factographic depiction of the real events that met the needs of the natural explanation of the correlation of the human character on the one hand as well as its dependence on the public, social, biological factors and their influence upon funny, ugly, grotesque manifestation of the life on the other hand. Comedy genre in the German dramaturgy is characterized by the exactness and brightness of the existed details, dynamism of the actions, efficiency of the psychological character features that add much to the formation of the conflict motive appearance, underline the tension of confrontation and point to its solutions. In the comedies of the English authors (O. Wilde, B. Shaw, J. Galsworthy, W. S. Maugham), German dramatists (G. Hauptmann, A. Holz, H. Sudermann, M. Halbe, G. Hirschfeld, O. E. Hartleben) it is traced the exceeding attention to the inner action (the advantage of the word over the action, the benefit of the psychological and philosophical contemplations over the sub-aspects of the plot, straight emphasis of the importance of the subtext); in the comedies of I. Karpenko-Karyi, M. Kropyvnytskyi, M. Starytskyi the value of the comedy intrigue and the role of the inner action are quite equal in the regard of the logics of development of the plot conflict. The comedies of the Ukrainian dramatists differ – in the typological contrast with the analogical genre works of the English and German authors – in establishing the basis of the national and ethnic, social-historical, socioeconomic context aimed at the derision of the partial and general faults towards the assessment of the positive phenomena, the depiction of the hot humorous situations in the light of the national colour.
