Essay

The research is aimed at the disclosure of the peculiarities of the formation and development of the national violin school during the second half of the 19th – the first half of the 20th century. The existing views on the phenomenon of the “school” in music art, which have evolved over the past 18 years, are summarized; among them the phenomenon appears as the “collective group”, “educational structure”, “system of learning”, “group experience”, “pedagogical project”, “professional qualification”, “tradition” etc. The need for a universal interpretation led to the involvement of the quadratic matrix approach, new for the musicology, proposed by N. Kolotiy. The initial components of the quadratic matrix, such as the motive, energy, method, and time (timeliness), which cover the key aspects of the existence of any phenomenon, in their interaction stipulate for a certain result and the achievement of the set goal through it. Extrapolated to the school in musical art, these provisions led to the definition of the basic elements of its formation and functioning, including the unification of professional musicians into the common field, owing to the knowledge and experience transfer based on the energy of love and readiness of internal and external conditions. The synchronization of the mentioned factors leads to the construction of a holistic hierarchical structure that guarantees the cognition of the higher meanings of a particular activity.
