Essay

The dissertation presents a theoretical analysis of and a practical solution to the problem of future psychologists' self-trust development. The author has carried out an experimental study into different aspects of future psychologists' self-trust, identified the main features of the development of self-trust in future psychologists during their university training, determined the levels of future psychologists' self-trust, constructed a factor configuration of future psychologists' self-trust, and developed and tested a future psychologists' self-trust development program. According to the results of the empirical research, almost every second respondent had developed (average and above average) self-trust, which allowed them to set realistic goals, recognize their own needs and realize their capabilities without compromising their values. Almost every third respondent had below average self-trust and was not ready to take actions on themselves and the situation, was overly self-critical, which in ambiguous situations was perceived as a doubt in their own abilities to achieve the goal. The highest self-trust was found in the graduate Master program students. During individuals' perception of other people as communication and interaction partners, they shape their attitudes towards those people as well as their attitudes towards themselves. Most of the respondents were shown to have high self-trust in building relationships with other people. Having analyzed the views of different researchers, the author made a conclusion that the most important correlates of individuals' self-trust included self-esteem, locus of control, self-efficiency, perseverance, adaptability and spirituality. It was found that the respondents with average, below average and low self-trust had adequate self-perception. They unbiasedly assessed their personality, had positive feelings about themselves and accepted themselves as they were, with all their positive and negative features. The future psychologists with higher-than-average self-trust were characterized by the inconsistent Real Self and Ideal Self, overestimated themselves in some situations and were ambitious. The level of future psychologists' subjective control provides a generalized characteristic of independence, autonomy, initiative and responsibility and describes to what extent a person feels an agent, rather than an object. It was shown that the respondents with higher-than-average self-trust had internal locus of control, whereas the students with low self-trust had external locus of control. The investigation results showed that the respondents with low self-trust had the highest behavioral and reflection characteristics. Thе respondents with average and above-average self-trust had average reflection, which allowed them to see all aspects of their interactions. The obtained results formed the basis for the author's training program, which used a person-oriented and eco-facilitative support model developed by P. Lushin and aimed at developing future psychologists' self-trust during their university training, improving their self-knowledge and self-acceptance as well as their skills of effective social interactions. The research data can be used by university instructors/teachers in teaching psychological subjects, as well as for the development of special courses, teaching aids and methodical recommendations.
