The author of this thesis studies theoretical approaches and makes experimental research of spatial sign and symbol knowledge system formation in children aged 8-12 with moderate and severe mental retardation. The system's formation mechanism as a mental structure of reality reflection based on spatial signs and symbols is researched in the thesis. The author represents the contents of educational correctional technique of spatial signs and symbols knowledge system in children with moderate and severe mental retardation, proves its efficiency, and offers relevant guidelines. The represented step-by-step correctional training of children with moderate or severe mental retardation, including gradual introduction of spatial signs and symbols, and general organization of learning process has proven its efficiency. Statistical analysis has confirmed the efficiency of this experimental technique.
