Hlavatskyi O. Architectural and spatial methods and means of increasing the criminological safety of the urban environment

The thesis outlines the essence and nature of criminological safety of large cities’ environment. Foreign multidisciplinary theories of crime prevention in the sphere of architecture and urban development are analyzed. The dependence between their major principles and historical methods and means of urban safe environment organization is revealed. Using the sociological and architectural methods the positive influence of foreign theories and social control process on criminological safety is confirmed. Architectural-planning and environmental criteria of urban environment safety are formed. The author has conducted the research of environment criminological safety in Lviv city at four levels: municipal level, level of city areas, level of city local communities and level of certain places with increased crime rate. It was grounded on numerous empirical and statistical information including author’s own developments and other authors’ and organizations’ works on the given topic. As the result the dependence between criminological level and architectural and spatial characteristics of environment in Lviv city was revealed. The author formed the architectural-spatial methods and means of urban environment criminological safety increase, developed new approaches to completion and assessment of project documentation and suggested amendments and addendums to existing regulations and procedures of urban environment designing.
