This thesis puts forward a new object of linguistics analysis – English ideation discourse which existence is enabled by the technological capabilities of TED Internet platform. English ideation discourse is defined as a process and result of the communicants’ interaction in the social-cultural context of a public speech, where the object of the interaction is an idea as a mental structure translated into verbal and non-verbal means of communication, and the subjects are the ideator and the recipient(-s) who are engaged in the cognitive-communicative activity which results in acceptance or rejection of the idea. The object of the thesis is initial and responsive strategies of communicative influence realized by English ideation discourse subjects with their verbal and non-verbal communicative actions. The subject is the lingua-cognitive basis of the communicative strategies that enables communicative influence aimed at rational reasoning, emotions, volition and subconsciousness. The aim of the research is to identify and describe initial and responsive strategies of communicative influence realized by English ideation discourse subjects. The study is pioneering a systematic cognitive-communicative methodology which reveals constitutive features of a new object of linguistic analysis – English ideation discourse – and provides the tool of inferential analysis to identify and describe rational, emotional, volitional and suggestive communicative influence that is exerted by the subjects of the ideation discourse in the basic (serious) and the humorous keys and is manifested in their verbal and non-verbal actions.
