Essay

The thesis is the first special scientific research that presents the peculiarity of the concept “Podillia” and its linguistic realization in the Mykhailo Stelmakh’s prose. The methodological mechanism of the conceptual linguistics is characterized, the essence of the basic notions such as “concept”, “fiction concept” is specified, the work’s description of the terms is offered, the individual and differential features of the terminology adjacent to the concept (concept, lexical meaning, fiction definition, image and so on) are defined.In the thesis the concept is considered in the cognitive aspect as a discrete mental formation, which is the basic unit of the human mind’s code, has a relatively internal structure, is the result of the cognitive activity of the individual and society and has a comprehensive encyclopedic information about the object of reflection or phenomenon, the interpretation of this information public consciousness and the relation of social consciousness to this phenomenon or subject. The concept in the prose texts is presented as an artistic concept – the unit of the sphere of concepts of the writer, which expresses the individual understanding of the subject of conceptualization and reproduces social, historical, cultural, ethnographic, intellectual and linguistic peculiarities of a society.The concept “Podillia” is described as an artistic concept with a pivot word – a toponym, which aims at a comprehensive reflection of individual interpretation of the subject of research aimed at the complex reflection of the territorial features of the word-concept by appealing to the geographical space, history, culture, and features of the regional dialects.
