Essay

Thesis presents comprehensive analysis of legal and historical sources with study of peasants' rebel movement in Ukrainian state formation in 1917–1921 within the Kyiv region. Current state of the topic research is defined along with evolution of Kyiv region peasants' rebel movement in the years of Ukrainian revolution (1917–1921), its social and economic factors, organizational and legal grounds for the armed conflict exacerbation. Research demonstrates that any of the existing governmental structures – Ukrainian People's Republic, Ukrainian state - was not capable of resolving the agricultural issue with complete satisfation of peasants comprisinf almost 80 % of Ukraine's population at that time. The specificity of ideology and forced implementation of hostile policy elaborated by Russian bolsheviks could not be handled by any national government. This resulted in outbursts of armed conflict between peasants and authorities, promoted the expansion of political chaos and later led to social polarization, negatively affecting the patriotic movement. Theoretical and practical significance of results is outlined with certain recommendations provided regarding further research.
