Dissertation is devoted to questions of early diagnosis and correction of carbohydrate metabolism disorders in patients with paranoid schizophrenia with background of antipsychotic therapy. 160 patients with the diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia were examined. The peculiarities of the dynamics of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in patients with paranoid schizophrenia with background of receiving different groups of neuroleptics were studied. Development of metabolic syndrome, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism disorders were registered in patients with paranoid schizophrenia treated with risperidone and quetiapine. Minimal changes have been shown in patients who took haloperidol. It is confirmed that metabolic syndrome, in patients with paranoid schizophrenia is a risk factor for the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus. On the basis of the conducted research, the method of early diagnosis of carbohydrate metabolism disorders in patients with paranoid schizophrenia with the background of antipsychotic therapy has been improved. For the first time, a method for correction of carbohydrate metabolism disorders in patients with paranoid schizophrenia with background of antipsychotic therapy has been developed and clinically and statistically confirmed. The effectiveness of metformin hydrochloride as a correction of metabolic disorders in patients with paranoid schizophrenia treated with antipsychotics is determined.
