The thesis paper is devoted to improving the theoretical base and solving practical functional processes in the display area, which would objectify the form creation process
and allow to evaluate the rationality of the design concept.
The architecture of modern museums was analysed. The functional structure of
modern museums is examined and the actual features of the functional organization are
determined, as well as the nomenclature of design tools, types and parameters of display
rooms. Attention is focused on the zoning of the display area. The principles of the
volume-spatial organization of the display rooms in modern museums are defined. The
classification of display rooms according to artistic and substantive features is
substantiated, their relationship with the size and profile of the museum is proved.
The history of the display design is considered, the nomenclature and the features of
the display design tools are substantiated. The ergonomic and compositional features of
such tools are revealed and the relationship between them is proved. The prerequisites for
the use of ergonomic principles as the basis of the display of geometric properties
designing technique and the conditions of displaying were rationalized.
At the beginning of the twenty-first century the nomenclature of display design tools
can be defined as: two-dimensional organization; volume; space; technical, informational
and multimedia tools.
Two-dimensional organization tools – spots, lines and dots. Their quantity, positions
on the expositional two-dimensional are substantiated by meaning and ordered by
harmonization tools – color, tone, texture and structure. Exhibit revealing on the twodimensional
is performed upon concentration principles, spreading, visual isolation and
contrast. Texture on the two-dimensional can be used as display correction tool of space
scale and human perception. Spreading, depth and availability of dominants are
conventional properties of display two-dimensional. Innovation in the display – the result
of attraction the adjacent spheres specialists and new technologies.
Volume organization tools – furniture and display equipment. Organization of
display volume covers selection of functional, geometric and aesthetic properties
mentioned forms according to ergonomic requirements and current space properties.
Display space organization tools – two-dimensionals, bordering it, forms, equipping
it, light and color as well. Two-dimensionals are correction tools of geometrical space
properties. Objects forms determine functional organization of space. The complexity of
functional organization relate on quantity and variety of objects forms. Color and light are
aesthetic harmonization tools of space. Considered that mentioned tools generate
hierarchical sequence: two-dimensionals – objects – color and light.
Technical tools in display are regarded as complex of machines, mechanisms,
control devices and relations between them. In actual display areas technical tools are
represented as: technical exhibits, ensure displaying tools, providing maintenance and
comfortable area conditions, IT-infrastructure as well. IT-infrastructure tools can
consolidate all other technical tools, found functional-maintenance “smart” systems.
Prospective trend of display design is using IT for exhibits making and sharing
information out of the display area.
Multimedia display are designed by hardware and software complexes. The
particular interaction between multimedia and visitors are determined dividing multimedia
exhibits on linear and interactive. The informational tools nomenclature consists of medias, dividing by information
transfer method as visual, audio and audiovisual. Visual information medias can execute
functional tasks due by quantities. Audio information medias are addition to visual.
