The object of research is one-member sentences in the language of modern Ukrainian mass media.
The purpose of research is to determine the functional and communicative potential of one-member sentences in the language of contemporary Ukrainian mass media.
The material of our research is one-member sentences, functioning in the language of contemporary Ukrainian mass media, separated by a continuous selection of printed media texts of the early twenty-first century.
Research methods: the descriptive method allowed to characterize the formal syntactic and semantic-syntactic properties of one-member sentences; with the help of the structural-semantic method, typical meanings and communicative-semantic variants of one-member sentences are revealed on the basis of analysis of predicate and subjective meanings of syntaxemes; the modeling method made possible the construction of a functional semantic field of impersonality of impersonal sentence, the development of structural-semantic schemes and communicative-semantic models of one-member sentences; the communicative-pragmatic method enabled to determine the pragmatic types of sentences according to the classification of speech acts and the communicative intentions of the author of the media message; the procedures of quantitative calculations are used to ensure the objectivity and reliability of the results.
The theoretical significance of the research is to substantiate the complex study of formal-grammatical, semantic-syntactic, communicative-pragmatic properties of one-member sentences in the texts of printed media, which makes it possible to form a coherent picture of the functional and communicative potential of one-member syntactic units in the media discourse of the early twenty-first century. Conclusions and generalizations enrich the theory of functional syntax, communicative linguistics, lingua pragmatics.
The scientific novelty of research is that in it for the first time in Ukrainian linguistics, on the basis of printed mass media texts, a comprehensive study of the functional and communicative potential of one-member sentences in the language of contemporary Ukrainian mass media has been conducted; the correlation of semantic-syntactic and communicative-pragmatic properties of one-complex personal sentences in the context of personalization / depersonalization of communicative pragmatics of media discourse is traced; the typical functional semantic models of one-member sentences and their communicative variants are developed on the basis of the contextual interpretation of the semantics of predicate and subjective syntaxemes; the functional-semantic paradigm of impersonal sentences is modeled, taking into account semantics, grammatical peculiarities and communicative potential of means to express the functional-semantic category of impersonality; despite the functional and communicative classification, predicative meaning, dictatum and modus organization and contextual interpretation of the content of the utterance has been described the communicative pragmatics of one-member sentences; the linguistic status of the genetive sentences, their structural-semantic typology is specified. The lingua-communicative essence of nominative sentence is determined on the basis of correlation of logico-syntactic types of semantics, ways of expressing predicative feature and communicative nature; the methodology of studying one-member sentences in the contextual-discursive area of the printed mass media on the basis of a functional and communicative approach is improved; the classification of one-member sentences is defined according to their formal-grammatical, semantic-syntactic structure and communicative pragmatics. The theoretical positions of the functional and communicative syntax concerning the unity of form, meaning and function of syntactic units, interconnectedness of the denotative, semantic, syntactic, and communicative levels of sentence became the further development.
The practical significance of the results obtained is due to the possibility of their using in the theory and practice of teaching linguistic courses: the syntax of modern Ukrainian language, media rhythmics, media linguistics, and media language.
The issues and main provisions of the study are described in 10 scientific publications, 4 of which are published in professional editions approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 2 – in foreign publications, 4 – in the collections of abstracts of international and all-Ukrainian conferences.
