Essay

The paper generalizes theoretical directions of understanding the essence of the phenomenon of hybrid mode. t is substantiated that the hybrid regime should be considered as one of the three main types of political regime – at the level of democracy and authoritarianism. Author's definition of hybrid political regime is proposed. The expediency of isolating the following directions of the transformation of the hybrid regime has been proved: the transition from authoritarian to hybrid political regimes; the transition from a hybrid to an authoritarian political regime; the transition from a democratic to a hybrid political regime; the transition from a hybrid to a democratic political regime. The development of the political regime in Ukraine is proposed to be divided into five stages: I. Transitional regime during the presidency of L.Kravchuk (1991-1994); II – «competitive authoritarianism” L.Kuchma (1994-2004); ІІІ – «defective democracy» for President V.Yushchenko (2005-2010); IV – «competitive authoritarianism» of Viktor Yanukovych (2010-2014); V – hybrid regime in the time of P.Poroshenko – ineffective democracy (from 2014 – to this day).
