Essay

The object of the research: novels “Anne of Kiev” by Regina Deforge, “The Last Suleyman’s Dream” by Alain Paris, “Mazepa, Hetman of Ukraine” by Irene Stetsyk and “Bequest” by Anna Shevchenko. The results and novelty: the analysis of the features of the reception and interpretation of Ukrainian history by foreign writers at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century was analyzed for the first time, drawing on the study of the functioning of the traditional images of the most iconic Ukrainians figures, who symbolizes a certain period in the establishment of Ukraine as an independent state. A review of the study shows that the analyzed texts have never been the subject of a special comparative study. The cultural relations between different nationalities, depicted in R. Deforge’s, A. Paris’s, I. Stetsyk’s and A. Shevchenko’s novels, were first analyzed in the comparative aspect, and their positive and negative aspects were highlighted. Field of application: the material can be used in monographs and textbooks aimed at analyzing the image of Ukraine in the world.
