Within the thesis research framework, the issue of shaping the primary school learners' music abilities in the process of play activity was studied; the current research state of the issue within music and pedagogical science/practice domain was considered; the notions of primary school learners' music abilities, music/rhythm game and play activity were specified; the principles and pedagogical circumstances for shaping the primary school learners' music abilities in the process of play activity were identified; the criteria and progress characteristics of the primary school learners' music abilities were figured out; the progress levels of the primary school learners' music abilities obtained via play activity were identified; gradual/phased methodology of shaping the primary school learners' music abilities in the process of play activity, involving three stages (passively-adaptive, actively-reproductive and self-motivated artistic), was developed and experimentally confirmed. The effectiveness of implementing the developed methodology was confirmed during pedagogical experiment, in the result of which the upward trend of shaping the learners' music abilities was observed. The practical significance of the research results lies in the fact that its theoretical conclusions and experimental findings may be implemented by Musical Mastery teachers at comprehensive schools, as well as by higher musical institutions teachers in the process of training the students for music and pedagogical practical activity; within the postgraduate education system for Musical Mastery teachers.
