The thesis deals with the problem of developing language competences to secondary school students who study English after German. In terms of the theoretical research, the current state of scientific thought on the issue of developing language competences to secondary school students who study English after German is analyzed; the psycho-pedagogical background of English as the second foreign language after German is studied; the structure and contents of the second foreign language competences are defined; the psycholinguistic, psycho-pedagogical and methodological peculiarities of interference and transfer are specified; the contrastive analysis of English and German on phonological, lexical, grammar, graphical levels within the current curriculum requirements is performed. In terms of practical research, the material selection of developing second foreign language competences is carried out; the system of learning activities aimed at developing language competences in English after German to seconda ry school students is presented; the model of the teaching process is introduced.
