Object - illiberal democracy as a subtype of defective democracy .; the purpose is a comparatively political-political conceptualization of illiberal democracy, as exemplified by a group of CEE countries that are EU members; methods - systemic, neo-institutionalism, comparative analysis; novelty -liberal democracy is defined by the subtype of defective democracy, which preserves the external attributes of democracy (elections, formally democratic constitution, multiparty, etc.) while simultaneously: encroachment on the rule of law, separation of powers; insufficient protection of civil and political rights and freedoms; pressure on civil society and the formation in its structure of a non-liberal (pseudo-civil) segment; results - can be used in practical activities of public activists and other policy makers in the educational process when developing courses on "Fundamentals of Democracy", "Political Regimes".
