Essay

For the first time in the dissertation research in the Ukrainian socio-humanitarian science the historical transformations of the image of the city are highlighted and it is shown that the city is an artificially constructed social space, which is regulated by social laws, which, due to the ontological representations, determine the norms, determine the norms, norms, and norms of urban life, but also the organizational structure of urban space. It is established that the center of contemporary socio-cultural transformations of the city is an identity, which is inextricably linked with the experience and awareness of people not only part of a certain socio-cultural space with its corresponding social ideals and standards, but also recognition of their historically formed and placed on designated territories. It has been proved that the formation of metropolitan areas is an important and threatening trend of modern times. On the one hand, the metropolis provides for the entry of regional (national or otherwise) elites into the global world, while on the other, it causes the erosion of modern forms of collective identity (ethnic, national) and the growth of social tension throughout its territory, which is part of its cultural, political and economic collapse.
