Essay

The thesis considers the issue of development of artistic and creative synesthetic perception of younger schoolchildren at integrated music classes in institutions of secondary education. The theoretical background of development of artistic and creative synesthetic perception of younger schoolchildren is defined, the educational potential of integrated music classes is revealed, and their role in development of students’ personal traits is determined. The component structure and methodology of development of artistic and creative synesthetic perception among elementary school children at integrated music classes is designed and theoretically substantiated. The pedagogical conditions and methods for development of artistic and creative synesthetic perception of younger schoolchildren are characterized. The criteria and levels for evaluation of development of artistic and creative synesthetic perception of younger schoolchildren at integrated music classes are defined. The effectiveness of the methodology for development of artistic and creative synesthetic perception among elementary school children at integrated music classes has been tested experimentally. It has been established that the solution to the said issue requires the study of respective pedagogical, psychological, music teaching, philosophical and arts studies literature. The study has found that pedagogical views on understanding the essence of artistic and creative synesthetic perception of younger schoolchildren have undergone a significant transformation and that despite their divergence in the past, today they have common points, notions and phenomena. The notion of “artistic and creative synesthetic perception” is defined as a personality trait of non-verbal artistic thinking of a person, an ability of schoolchildren to correlate images of different perception modalities (auditory, visual, kinesthetic, etc.). It includes poetical tropes and figures of speech related to intersensory associations, colour and special images evoked by music, and interaction between the types of art.
