Essay

The peculiarities of the verbalization of qualitative semantics in the Ukrainian poetic discourse of the second half of the twentieth century on the material of the works of representatives of the New York group were comprehensively studied in the thesis. The categorical quality status in the modern Ukrainian literary language was substantiated. The correlation between cognitive and linguistic quality categories was established. It was proved that the language quality category is considerably wider, more versatile, more dynamic and culturally labeled than cognitive. It was proved that poetic discourse is the most representative for the identification of all means of verbalization of quality, since it contains not only specialized, primary quality ratings, but also secondary ones – rarely used and individually-authored. It was established that the words on the designation of quality serve as a means of modeling a particular poetic world, contribute to the aesthetization of presentation and the creation of colorful, sensual images.
