Essay

The thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of Christian concepts in the preaching, hagiographic, pilgrimage and chronical genres of the Kyivan Rus (XI–XIII centuries). The main scientific approaches are devoted to reaserching the concept and specifics of the formation of its Christian variant in the historical and cultural development of the Ukrainian Middle Ages. The attention is focused on cognitive strategies and methods of their introduction into the interpretation of artistic text. The tendencies of influence of the Byzantine literature on creation of original writing by the Kievan scribes are determined. The linguistic and cognitive mechanisms of comprehension of artistic space deal with the genre of sermon, namely, analog mapping. The prototype model of holiness in the Kyivan Cave Patericon and «The Life of Theodosius Pecherskу ...» are considered, features of the conceptual metaphor of WAY in the genre of pilgrimage and the structural specificity of the cathedral concept are determined – HOLY KYIVAN RUS. The mnemonic component in the chronicle tradition of the Ukrainian Middle Ages is emphasized, the concept of MEMORY is singled out, and its explication in the «Story of the Feasting Years», the Kyivan, Galician-Volhynian Chronicles, and «The Tale of Igor’s Compaign» by analysis of intertextualization and cognitive mapping are analyzed.
