The thesis is dedicated to the issue of forming the communicative competence offuture teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature in the process of teaching Stylistics. In the study the content of the notions «competency» and «competence» is ascertained and the substantive content of the term «the communicative competence of a future teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature» is construed. The concept «competency» is determined as a complex of knowledge and skills related to relevant types of professional activities, which is deemed necessary for performing productive activities; «competence» is defined as an array of interconnected value reference points as well as instructions, knowledge, skills and the experience of a future teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature to apply the acquired knowledge in the professional activities; and as an awareness, a due proficiency in a certain speech situation. In this study, the content of the notion «the communicative competence of a future teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature» is construed as an inner resource capacity, an acquired system of knowledge, speech and organizational skills and an ability to monitor one's own communicative activities and an array of professionally meaningful skills necessary for efficient and consistent comprehension of other people's speech behavior and prompt formation of one's own communicative strategies relevant to the purposes, areas, genres and situations of communication; convening readiness to communicative activities and proficiency in both verbal and non-verbal means of social behavior.Methodological groundwork for forming the communicative competence of language teachers is analyzed. The criteria (motivation-and-value, normative-and-thesaurus and genre-and-stylistic) and indicators are elaborated and the levels (high, sufficient, average and elementary) for forming the communicative competence of future teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature are determined. The content, aim, tasks of experimental-and-research work are established; the course and results of the formative and checking phase of the educational experiment are characterized and analyzed; the efficiency of the elaborated methodology for forming the communicative competence of future teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature in the process of teaching Stylistics is confirmed.
