Essay

The thesis is devoted to studying the motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD) in comorbid Autoimmune Thyroiditis (AITD), based on results of complex clinical and para-clinical examinations. A total of 109 patients aged between 47 and 75 years with PD and with PD in comorbid AITD were included in the study. The statistically significant study findings show higher levels of an anxiety and autonomic disorders levels in both subgroups of patients with PD and AITD. Also, significantly lower levels of cognitive function by the МоСА scales have been revealed in patients with long-standing PD and AITD. The indicator of motor disorders of the third part of UPDRS in patients with long-standing PD and AITD have been estimated as statistically significantly higher. The statistically significantly higher level of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL (interleukin)-10 has been identified in patients with early-stage PD and AITD. It has been reported the elevated level of proinflammatory cytokines in both subgroups of patients with PD and AITD. We have established statistically significant associations between IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10 and the total score of autonomic disorders, depression and anxiety levels in both subgroups of patients with PD and AITD.
