The dissertation is devoted to revealing historical tendencies and prospects of development of design of furniture of civil premises. An important area of research was the search for new means of harmonization and forms of influence of social, informational, ergonomic, environmental, design and bionic aspects on functional and artistic-figurative characteristics of furniture in modern conditions.
In view of this, in the dissertation the scientific-methodological assessment of the historiography of furniture design studies, terminology is given. The historical stages of the evolution of furniture design, which are consistent with the classic European periodization of history, are determined and systematized. The study includes an analysis of these historical stages. In particular, the main evolutionary signs and identified trends in the formation and development of furniture design for civilian premises are comprehensively and theoretically covered in them in the historical aspect in terms of stylistic, morphological characteristics of applied art and architectonics. These trends in the design of furniture are systematized initially in the stages of evolution within the limits of historical aesthetic styles and then according to their features. Graphically executed tables of the above-mentioned tendencies, revealed a detailed picture of the evolutionary process. In addition, developed comparative tables for the analysis of forming of furniture with decorative elements, artistic techniques of furniture decoration, allowed to more fully disclose and demonstrate the tendencies of the development of furniture forming at the stages of the craft period. Illustrations of historical and innovative designs of furniture design of the XX century - supplemented and confirmed their development trends at the stages of the industrial period. In addition, the main factors of development and conditions influencing the formation of modern furniture are determined and systematized. On the basis of analysis of the theory and practice of design and development factors, the structure of requirements for the design of modern furniture has been formed. The main content and composition of the very concept of "furniture", the working version of their appearance, are specified. The main modern trends of furniture design development and suggestions for their perspective directions in the near future are determined.
Detected and supplemented by the necessary scientific definitions, structural systematization of objective patterns and properties of furniture as shown by historical experience, will contribute to the positive dynamics of furniture design development, and will provide opportunities for further in-depth scientific research in this direction, as well as be used practically by educational, design, production and other organizations and enterprises.
