In the thesis, the theoretical and methodological foundations of the transformation of the banking sector of the economy were investigated; its essence, features, its classification and types were summarized. An approach to the definition of organizational and functional transformation of the banking sector of the economy has been developed. The directions and forms of organizational and functional transformation of the banking sector are substantiated. A clarification of the notion “transformation of the banking sector,” which is due to the breadth of the scope of application of the term “transformation,” and requires the specification of its organizational and functional nature, is proposed. A scientifically-methodical approach to defining the organizational and functional transformation of the banking sector of the economy as a system of interrelated structural changes in the organization and functions of banking activities is developed, in the aggregate they ensure the transformation of the banking sector of the economy and achieve a high level of resilience that can prevent crisis phenomena and level their consequences trends in the global financial market and at the level of the national economy. Evaluated the functioning of the domestic banking sector in terms of its organizational and functional transformation using the SWOT analysis. Analyzed the profitability of the banking sector of Ukraine using the methods of decomposition analysis (factor DuPont model). The influence of the NBU measures to reform the domestic banking sector on its organizational and functional transformation is determined. The features of the organizational and functional transformation of the domestic banking sector are substantiated. According to the results of the analysis of the functioning of the domestic banking sector, the characteristic features of its organizational and functional transformation were revealed, in particular: the reformist mode of change and at the same time the weak evolutionary nature of the transformations; the concentration of risks throughout the entire period of development of the banking sector formed the basis for transformational instability and crisis; ineffective response to shortcomings and the accumulation of problems directly by top management of banks, insufficient participation of shareholders in determining the vector of activity and development model of the bank; adaptive nature to the conditions of the economic space in Ukraine, which is manifested through a significant lag between regional development, inadequate lending to the population, overflow of capital attracted by banks to lending to economic entities for current needs, etc. A methodical approach to calculating the level of organizational and functional transformation of the banking sector is proposed. It is substantiated that this approach is an integral part of the developed system of measures to improve the efficiency of organizational and functional transformation of the banking sector. Directions for improving the organizational and functional transformation of the banking sector, in particular, the restructuring of the domestic banking sector, have been developed. The tools for improving the efficiency of the organizational and functional transformation of the banking sector are identified.
