The object of research is the process of designing and repairing traction gears of traction and motor-vehicle rolling stock of railways. The research was carried out using methods of theory and construction of locomotives, multilevel hierarchical systems, theory of optimization, the theory of mechanisms and the dynamics of machines, mathematical planning of the experiment. As a result of the study, new formalized block-hierarchical descriptions of the design of traction drives in the form of "I-OR" trees were obtained; an improved method of optimizing the design of traction gears was developed; a new experimental and calculation method for determining the repair of changes in the geometric parameters of the contacting surfaces of the teeth and their impact assessment was proposed. on the coupling characteristics and the residual life of traction gears. The scope of their application is enterprises engaged in the design, operation and repair of railway rolling stock.
