Essay

The dissertation highlights complex (lexicographic, cognitive and pragmatic) characteristics of the political dictionary in Ivan Franko’s natiosophic discourse. The aim of the dissertation is by expanding the research paradigm from structural to anthropocentric, to justify the discursive nature of the term, including a politonym, rethinking the nature of its semantics. The figure of a prominent Ukrainian writer I. Franko and his innovation in the evolution of the Ukrainian political and lingual-cognitological thought, especially his original ideas about a new type of the interdisciplinary studies in the Ukrainian linguistics (linguopolitology, cognitive linguistics, theory of communication) are outlined in the research. The nature of a political term is clarified, the law of the pragmatic (conotative, implicative, emotional) component in its semantic structure is proved, the cognitive significance of Franko's theory of suggestion is characterized; the scientific and existential significance of Franko's "school of political thought" in the formation of a modern Ukrainian linguistic polytology is emphasized. The practical tasks are realized through lexicographic and contextual-interpretive analysis: the thematic stratification of Franko's political dictionary is developed; the sources of its replenishment and the historical continuity of nominative-conceptual means are traced; the semantic potential of the political metaphor is discovered, and within it the scenarios of metaphorical conceptualization are singled out; different types of implicity are decoded in Ivan Franko's natiosophic discourse; the pragmatic aureole of the key politonims people, nation, and progress are outlined.
