The dissertation is the first in the national science of civil law special complex research on acquisition of ownership over immovable property by way of acquisitive prescription. The formation and development of the legislation on the acquisition of ownership over immovable property by way of acquisitive prescription was studied in die dissertation. The definition, grounds and peculiarities of acquisition of ownership over immovable property by way of acquisitive prescription, as well as the legal nature of immovable property, the ownership over which is being acquired, were determined. Tire correlation between die acquisition of ownership over immovable property and die related legal categories was defined. The procedure of obtaining the ownership over immovable property by way of acquisitive prescription was determined. The legal consequences of acquisition of ownership over immovable property by way of acquisitive prescription under the legislation of Ukraine were investigated. The proposals on the improvement of the current civil legislation of Ukraine in die field of acquisitive prescription over immovable property were formulated.
